We all know of Muthuswami Dikshitar as an indefatigable traveller. His contemporaries Syama Sastry and Tyagaraja travelled less but nevertheless did so. Among his predecessors it would appear that Purandaradasa was quite widely travelled as is evident from his songs. Much of his movements ran in parallel to the expanding Vijayanagar Empire and taken together, they make for a good study. I presented a talk on this subject at Vani Mahal in December 2018. I cannot say it is a comprehensive study of Purandaradasa’s visits to kshetras but it is a good beginning. The YouTube link is provided below:
Very very fascinating. Thank you.
Do you know if (in theory) restoration work at Hampi is possible to a degree that will recreate at least the temples and their sculptures in their entirety or to a good degree? Asking because I don’t know anything about conservation works; do people restore chopped-off noses etc.?
Hi – not really. The idea is to leave them as they are and prevent further deterioration
I see 🙁 Thanks again, including for the fun bits like “original keto diet” with nalleNNai 🙂
