According to The Times of India, Lalgudi GJR Krishnan has said that Pt Ravishankar came to Madras in the 1960s and heard Tiger Varadachariar sing. Small problem, Tiger died in 1950. Similarly a Hindu interview of TK Murthy in 2009 claims he attended concerts where his guru Thanjavur Vaidyanatha Iyer accompanied Ramanathapuram Poochi Srinivasa Iyengar. Big problem here. TK Murthy was born in 1924, Poochi died in 1919.This of course pales in comparison with dance where the years of contribution to the art are calculated from the time the terpsichorean was born. Well, almost.
Oh Yes!! One renowned dancer has said that the person has been dancing since the age of two. It also pales in comparison when one actor said his son was dancing from the day he was put on the cradle!!!1
I just read an article that said something like “Ravishankar could be heard anywhere in India – including pan shops, saloons” and what have you. Our people know no bounds when it comes to romanticizing the life of someone that just died.
It is not suprising when many claim that they as child prodigy sang RTP at the age of four
