Chennai today is an automobile hub – manufacturing three cars every minute and one heavy vehicle every 90 seconds. It also contributes around 33 percent of the automotive components made in India. The seeds of this huge industrial base were interestingly sown in Mount Road aka Anna Salai. Early in the 20th century, this was the automobile retail hub where cars and chassis from the UK, Europe and America came to be sold. Many legendary names in Indian auto industry began life on this historic thoroughfare and went on to bigger and better business.
Come, join Sriram V on a tour of Mount Road (and Madras) Motor history.
