Komaliswarar Temple
Komaliswarar Temple

Komaliswaranpet is a small hamlet nestling in the arms of the River Cooum. It has today more or less subsumed its identity with that of its better-known neighbour – Pudupet.

A neighbourhood that could be a lot cleaner, it however boasts of a rich dubashi past, with many aristocratic families of Madras, their wealth made through serving the British, settling along the banks of the river. Many temples were built, and the many communities that settled also brought in their religious establishments. The dubash Pachayappa Mudaliar lived here. The complicated tale of his will alone is enough to keep you engrossed for a full walk.

Come and join historian Sriram V on a journey down memory lane and Cooum way on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 6.00 am. The tour, by foot, will last two hours and will end with breakfast. Charges: Rs 500 per head.
