This is supposed to be a power starved state. The city has two-hour power cuts everyday while in the mofussil it is ten hours and more. And yet, when it comes to political events and politicians’ family weddings, power appears to be literally available on tap. Just passed by Santhome High Road where one side is ablaze with tube-lights, each topped with a flag. Where does the power come for this? And who is paying for it? And surely whoever is celebrating should at least out of a sense of solidarity with the less privileged have avoided this extravagance? Or is that empathy and sympathy only the prerogative of the less exalted?

Some more, taken a couple of months back
Mr. Sriram.v. It was nice reading the’ on trail of judges&lawyers. it traced along the Luz Church Road. However i find that the visit of Swami Vivekananda to Luz Church Road stands missing. In the book “The Life of Swami Vivekananda’ By His Eastern and Western Disciples (Vol.2, pp 201), it is mentioned, Swami went on invitation to the house of Dr. Subrahmanya Iyer in Luz Church Road. Prof. Sundaramana Iyer was present.
sir i would like to know where exactly the place was and more information about Swami’s visit.
Just as you say there is no empathy, sympathy, consideration left in our people since Bharat beame India and we started greeting each other with हाय!हाय!
Hi=हाय(Hindi)=ayyo=अय्यो(Tamizh)=something inauspicious! and as children we were not supposed to ever utter this word.
My paternal grandmother had enquired very innocently many many years ago as to why young people said हाय!हाय! ?
Well it was a symptom-a sign of things to come! And now some of us we see it crystal-clear!
We Indians do not cringe nor feel the qualms of conscience over-spending money on useless stuff-over-shopping of clothes, jewelry, over-eating and getting obese( and then going to Ayurvedic Health Spas) wasting natural resources like water, food and electricity and complete insensitivity to the less privileged, poverty, sadness and inequality rampant all around us!
We were once upon a time a nation who held the ideals of great sages & saints close to heart-we sang and practiced-वैष्णवजन तो तेणे कहिए -पीड पराई जाणे रे- we suffered when another human suffered & went out of our way to alleviate suffering.
I recall the compassion & kindness my family elders showed to everyone.
But today everything has reversed and we see our great land ‘getting divided’ by such inhuman & selfish behaviour which is becoming a habit of the ‘exalted’ class.
The rape of a young woman in Delhi is blamed on Hindus & the great epics of Ramayanam & Mahabharatam and the treatment of Seeta who is one of the PANCHAKANYAS who is worshipped by men & women alike for leading an exemplary moral life.(Ref.Nilanjana Roy’s article in Business Standard)
We have completely lost our identity and become deracinated.
Will we ever see the LIGHT or is it that we shall only see the ‘flashy illumination’ as shown in the photos above???
