Long ago In trade, cotton, cotton it was, before kanjeevarams.
Silk was VaranAsi’s speciality–and China’s, wasn’t it?
The blue moree is something which makes me curious. It was Indigo-dyed, one can guess. Was it jean material? Strange as it may sound, a place in New South Wales is called Moree, and they manufacture jean material there!
Well, if serge de Nime (cotton from the city of Nime in France) got shortened to denim–wonder if blue moree is also denim, the long-lasting cotton material which is suitable wear for laboring in.
Nice piece (pun intended)!
