This morning the Music Academy lec dems featured two disciples remembering their gurus. The first was Bangalore Amrit speaking of the way his guru, the kanjira wizard, the late Harishankar performed. I reached quite late but what I saw was very good. There were plenty of video clips of the way he accompanied several stalwarts. I sincerely hope that somewhere MLV was mentioned (perhaps before I came in) for it was she who gave Harikshankar so many concert opportunities. I remember attending several concerts of hers where he was the accompanist and he was always great.
The second presentation was by Sangita Kalanidhi designate Prof Trichy Sankaran on his guru, Palani Subramania Pillai. He demonstrated how the typical lessons that Palani taught and unique nadais, korvais and mohras of the Palani school. Umayalpuram K Sivaraman spoke at length in the end, felicitating Sankaran.
