Very nice article. Long time overdue portrait from The Hindu!
The current repertoire of the Surati, khamas varnam, The caturdasa ragamalika, gAravamu all owe their existence to Swaminatha Pillai – directly and indirectly!
I would also like to add that we only tell part of the story when we associate the Dikshita Kirtana Prakashika with “First Tamil Script notation”. While that part is definitely true, the perspective that it is the “ONLY” other set of notations from a branch other than that of Subbarama Dikshitar – Ambi Dikshitar line (which cannot be said of the later Tamil publications that came soon after!) frequently gets missed.
